Students showcase scientific knowledge
Andrew Yazzie, left, Martha Hughes and Polito Walters are one of nine Shiprock High School student teams participating in the 16th annual New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge at the Laboratory. Their project investigates how Russian olive trees are invading native plant species in the Four Corners area. Winners in the challenge are scheduled to be announced this morning at the awards ceremony in the Church of Christ Auditorium, 2323 Diamond Drive. Dozens of teams from throughout the state competed in this year's challenge. The goal of the year-long event is to increase knowledge of science and computing; expose students and teachers to computers and applied mathematics; and instill enthusiasm for science in middle- and high-school students, their families and communities.
