Omega Bridge closed for short period this morning

May 11, 2006

Buildings being relocated

The Omega Bridge over Los Alamos Canyon connecting Technical Area 3 with the Los Alamos townsite is closing from about 10:30 to 11 this morning to accommodate the movement of two transportable buildings.

The transportable buildings are being relocated from Technical Area 21 to Nambe Pueblo, according to Doug Volkman of Design Engineering and Construction Services (ENG-DECS). The buildings are being moved as part of a Project Management (PM) Division demolition and decommissioning project at TA-21 off DP Road.

Volkman said the transportable buildings, which are 28 feet-wide by 60 feet-long, will be placed on special flatbed trucks and moved from DP Road, west on Trinity Drive to Diamond Drive, over the canyon and then onto East Jemez Road (the truck route). Los Alamos Police Department will escort the transportable buildings west on Trinity Drive to Diamond Drive and may hold vehicle traffic at intersections along Trinity Drive as the buildings are being moved.

Laboratory workers and motorists should expect delays over the Omega Canyon bridge during this time and seek an alternate route of travel, such as West Road, to get to TA-3. Motorists also should use caution as the transportable buildings travel east on East Jemez Road to their destination.

For more information, contact Terry Kiehne of Infrastructure Projects (PM-IP) at 5-1564 or Charlie Trask of Utilities and Infrastructure (FM-UI) at 7-7756.
