As part of National Men’s Health Week, Occupational Medicine (HSR-2) is hosting a men’s health panel discussion at noon today in Room 107 at the Occupational Medicine building at Technical Area 3.
National Men’s Health Week runs through Sunday. According to the National Men’s Health Week Web site, the purpose of Men's Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
The panel discussion will focus on raising awareness about men’s health. Topics to be covered at the discussion range from Andropause (“The Male Menopause”), to stress management and communication strategies. Allen Figg, Evelyn Kennedy, James Barber and Patrick Montoya, all of HSR-2, will lead the discussion, which is open to the Lab work force.
A question and answer session will conclude the discussion, and a variety of health education materials will be available.
“We’re giving away some motivational door prizes, like a heart rate monitor,” said Figg, “but I feel the real draw is the panel. All the presenters are very dynamic and the new information on the gender differences relating to the topics is fascinating.”
