March Currents now availableMarch 12, 2009
The March issue of Currents has been distributed to all employees.
This new issue features a cover article on Todd Conklin of the Lab’s Environment, Safety, and Health Integration Office and the work he does with human-performance training and identifying weaknesses in processes and practices that lead to incidents. “In the work we do, people are going to make mistakes,” said Conklin. “That is both normal and predictable. What we need to do is mitigate the consequences or outcomes of those mistakes.” Marilyn Peabody of Stockpile Manufacturing and Support (ADSMS) and chair of the Institutional Worker Safety and Security Team (WSST) provides the March "My View" column; in it, she talks about the Laboratory’s WSST and Voluntary Protection Program. She also discusses the Lab’s efforts to achieve VPP Star status, a highly sought-after Department of Energy recognition of the best in class for safety and Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance. Also featured in the issue is an article about Michael Cournoyer, a recently certified Lean Six Sigma yellow belt, and his process-improvement project findings that lead to improved cycle time for glovebox glove disposal and a more ergonomically favorable glovebox glove. Pawan Rastogi of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (MPA-CINT) is highlighted for his contributions to science and the Lab’s student community, and LANL Star Kathy Prestridge of Neutron Science and Technology (P-23) talks about her passion for mentoring. To read these and other items, pick up the March Currents. It’s as close as your employee inbox. And when you have finished reading it, share it with family and friends or drop it in a mixed-paper recycling bin. Other HeadlinesSpace Research
