Smoke visible from Los Alamos
Santa Fe National Forest fire managers plan to burn piles of material today and the rest of the week in Rendija Canyon north of Los Alamos, weather permitting.
Fifteen piles of material from thinning operations are being burned, according to Dolores Maese of the Santa Fe National Forest. The thinning operations in the EspaƱola Ranger District of the forest were done to reduce the risk of catastrophic fire by minimizing the probability of crown fires in the area while also enhancing forest health. Smoke may be visible from Los Alamos, Maese added.
