Next Innovators' Forum scheduled

By Margaret M. Owens

November 13, 2008

The world of commercialization awaits

Curious about how to take your technology to the marketplace? Don’t miss the next Innovators’ Forum from 3:30 to 6 p.m. November 18 at the Los Alamos Research Park conference room.

Now in its sixth year, the Technology Maturation Fund program, highlighted through the forum, helps Laboratory researchers discover their technology’s commercial potential.

The panel members, comprised of former recipients of the Lab’s Technology Maturation Funding, will share their success stories and answer questions on how to tap into this available resource, explained Doruk Aytulu, of the Technology Transfer (TT) Divison. Also participating on the panel is a chief executive officer of a company that worked through the program to license a Lab technology.

There are tangible and intangible benefits to participating in the program, Aytulu explained. “The tangible benefit is the possibility of receiving funds with a quick turnaround to evolve the commercialization potential of a technology in order to bring it to market. The intangible benefit is that principal investigators are made to think more about how their technology may be commercialized in the future.”

The primary goal of the Laboratory’s Technology Maturation Fund, administered by Technology Transfer, is to move technology to the point where outside companies can license it.

“It’s costly to get to the proof-of-concept stage and these funds eliminate that barrier,” Aytulu said. “So, if you want to commercialize your technology and are curious how that works, this program is a resource that can help you not only identify opportunities, but move your technology out into the world.”
