Tax holiday this weekend for school supplies

July 31, 2008

Laboratory employees can help less fortunate children in Northern New Mexico by donating much needed school supplies for the upcoming school year. And Friday through Sunday, school supplies can be purchased tax-free.

The Community Programs Office (CPO) is again sponsoring a school supplies drive through August 8.

The drive will benefit children from the Santa Fe Children’s Project, The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, San Juan Pueblo Day School, the Adelante Homeless Program, Española School District, Jemez Mountain School, and Cariños Charter School.

Employees can donate crayons, erasers, glue (stick and liquid), rulers, sharpeners, markers, backpacks, pencils, scissors, and notebooks. Supplies can be dropped off at collection boxes in the National Security Sciences and Otowi buildings, LANSCE at Technical Area 53, TA-55, Central Park Square, Materials Science Laboratory, Pajarito School Complex, and the Community Programs Office located at 1619 Central Avenue downtown.

Lab employees also can support Northern New Mexico schools by making a contribution to the LANL Laces program, which supplies shoes to children who are in need. Laboratory employees can donate to LANL Laces by mailing a check or money order to LANL Laces, Cashier’s Office, Mail Stop P231.

Or stop by the Cashier’s Office in the basement of the Otowi Building, Room S115, to make a donation. Donations to LANL Laces are tax-deductible. Donations are accepted from August though December.
