Area small businesses learn about opportunities at Lab

By Steve Sandoval

ASM hosts supplier forum

Local small businesses can learn about new subcontracting requirements and opportunities at a small business supplier forum Thursday in Pojoaque.

Hosted by Acquisition Services Management (ASM) Division, the forum is from 8 a.m. to noon in the Cities of Gold Conference Center in Pojoaque. There is no cost to attend, but business owners are asked to register between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m., said Andrea Martinez-Lucero of the Small Business Program (ASM-SBP). Business owners planning to attend should call Martinez-Lucero at 5-5793 or write to anmx@lanl.gov by email to RSVP.

From 8:30 to about 10 a.m., participants can hear presentations about the National Nuclear Security Administration's proposed complex transformation and how it impacts the Laboratory, as well as on future construction projects at Los Alamos.

Laboratory employees interested in the capabilities of local and regional suppliers and subcontractors are invited to attend the forum to meet business owners and discuss Los Alamos's programmatic needs.

A Web-based presentation on procurement opportunities at Sandia National Laboratories also is scheduled. Martinez-Lucero said the Web portal allows business owners an opportunity to bid on procurement opportunities at Sandia labs.

"Businesses attending the Supplier Forum will have a great opportunity to learn what is going on at Los Alamos as well as what is planned for Los Alamos during the next decade," said Dennis Roybal of Los Alamos's Small Business Program Office (ASM-SBP). "Local businesses also have the opportunity to learn what is going on at Sandia National Laboratories and how to do business at Sandia."

Roybal added that business owners can network and perhaps develop teaming relationships in order to compliment each others' capabilities and increase their capacity as teaming partners to prepare them to compete on larger procurements at Los Alamos, Sandia and within the DOE complex.

Martinez-Lucero said there will be more than a dozen resource tables staffed by representatives from the two labs, as well as from Los Alamos National Security, LLC, Laboratory teaming partners, the federal Small Business Administration, and business trade associations to meet with small business owners.

Participating businesses who register also are eligible to win a prize by obtaining facts from the resource tables.

For more information, contact Martinez-Lucero at 5-5793 or anmx@lanl.gov by electronic mail. Or see the Small Business Program Web page.
