Black History Month talk focuses on embracing cultural diversityFebruary 4, 2008
The importance of embracing cultural diversity is the focus of a talk by Bill Phillips III Wednesday at the Laboratory. The talk is part of the Laboratory's observance of national Black History Month.
Phillips, director of Los Alamos's Office of Counterintelligence (OCI), speaks at 10 a.m. in the Materials Science Laboratory Auditorium. His talk is titled "How Might We View Black History Month?" and examines the importance of cultural diversity and how it can be embraced inside and outside the workplace. The talk is unclassified and open to all Laboratory employees. Winners of student poster and essay contests also will be announced at the talk. The contests were sponsored by the African American Diversity Working Group and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (HR-OEOD). The posters are scheduled to be displayed in the lobby area outside the MSL Auditorium, and later, will be displayed at the Mesa Public Library in downtown Los Alamos through February 26. Phillips came to the Laboratory in August 2005 after 25 years of service in the Central Intelligence Agency.
