Supercomputing Challenge winners to be named todayApril 24, 2007
"The [Supercomputing Challenge] is useful in any aspect of life because it really encourages teamwork. It helps us learn important interpersonal skills," said Jayson Lynch of Sandia Preparatory School after his team's presentation Monday at Los Alamos.
Students from seventy teams around the state were at Los Alamos to present their year-long research projects to judges at the 17th New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge. The presentations took place in University House and the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center at Technical Area 3. Teams were judged in several areas, including their computer codes, results and conclusions, presentations, and teamwork. Challenge winners will be announced this morning at an awards ceremony in the Church of Christ Auditorium, 2323 Diamond Drive. The goal of the event is to increase knowledge of science and computing; expose students and teachers to computers and applied mathematics; and instill enthusiasm for science in middle- and high-school students, their families and communities. More information on the New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge, including a list of student projects, can be found at http://www.challenge.nm.org/ online. Other HeadlinesSpace Research
