Museum of Indian Arts and Culture employee to speak
Joyce Begay-Foss, director of education for the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, will speak at 11 this morning in the Cochiti Room of the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center as part of the Laboratory’s observance of American Indian Heritage Month. Begay-Foss will provide information about [her] organization’s perspective of American Indian culture and history with a focus on New Mexican tribes, said Barbara Tenorio-Grimes of the Government Affairs Office (CGA-GAO), co-chair of the American Indian Diversity Working Group (AIDWG). Begay-Foss plans to bring pictures as well as museum items and artifacts to show the audience during her talk. She works to develop curriculum about Southwest history and traditional arts. Her curriculum addresses reading, oral history, writing, and hands-on activities for students. “Each year, we try to schedule events during American Indian Heritage Month that will teach Lab employees about and provide a better understanding of Native American history and culture,” said Tenorio-Grimes. The talk is sponsored by the AIDWG and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (HR-OEOD). For more information, contact Tenorio-Grimes at 5-5121 or bgrimes@lanl.gov, or contact Ron Wieneke of Program Management (PM-DO), co-chair of AIDWG at 5-0269 or ronwieneke@lanl.gov.
