Postdoctoral Publication Prize in Experimental Sciences awarded to GravesJune 29, 2009
Chris Graves, a current Seaborg Postdoc Fellow in the Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics Group (MPA-10) in the Materials Physics and Applications Division, is the 2009 winner of the Postdoctoral Publication Prize in Experimental Sciences. The winning paper was “Organometallic Uranium (V)-Imido Halide Complexes: From Synthesis to Electronic Structure and Bonding,” published in The Journal of the American Chemical Society. Jackie Kiplinger of Condensed Matter & Thermal Physics (MPA-10) nominated Graves for the prize. Gary Walker, a previous Postdoc Research Associate in the Neutron Science and Technology Group in the Physics Physics Division (P-23), took second place for his paper “Discovery of Localized Regions of Excess 10-TeV Cosmic Rays” published in Physical Review Letters. Gus Sinnis of Neutron Science & Technology (P-23) nominated Walker for the prize. This biennial prize, jointly sponsored by the Laboratory and former Physics Division leader Damon Giovanielli, is awarded for the best article in experimental sciences published in the past three years. The research must represent a seminal contribution to the respective disciplines. A panel of senior Laboratory technical staff members selects the winning paper. Graves and Walker will be honored at a Physics/Theoretical Division colloquium this fall at the Lab, when they will receive a certificate and monetary award. Space Research
