A front row seat to history

The Laboratory is steeped in historical importance and the history books used in school only scratch the surface of the true complexities that a nation faces when at war. Guest speaker Leon Smith of the 509th Composite Group and one of the seven elite members of the fuzing group who worked on both atomic bombs in the 1940s, took Laboratory employees on a journey through the historical events of World War II through the window of his own unique experiences.


Spreading holiday cheer
Santa Claus, aka Kevin Gately of Protection Technology Los Alamos, helped spread holiday cheer and handed out gifts to about 90 senior citizens in state custody of the Department for Aging and Long-term Services, including Rebecca Jaramillo, right, at a party Wednesday in Espanola.
DOE seeking nominations for the E. O. Lawrence Awards
The Department of Energy is accepting nominations through Monday for the 2006 Ernest Orlando Lawrence Awards, one of the most prestigious scientific awards given by the DOE.
Cave Kiva trail tours today, Saturday
Tours of the Cave Kiva trail near the bottom of NM 501 (truck route) are scheduled today and Saturday. The tours are sponsored by the Cultural Resources team in Ecology (ENV-ECO).
Power line installations begin today over Laboratory
Beginning today and continuing two days a week for the next month, a series of 115 kilovolt electric power transmission lines are being installed. A black Hughes 369E helicopter is being utilized to install the power lines across several Laboratory technical areas.
Service Saturday for Lab employee Granich
Funeral services for Laboratory employee Thomas Granich Jr., 32, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday. Granich passed away last Sunday in an automobile accident.
UC Regents approve proposal on salary oversight for faculty, staff
Specific goals to achieve market-competitive salaries for all University of California employees over the next 10 years is the goal under a resolution approved recently by the UC Board of Regents.
