The new combination parking structure and adjacent surface parking lot accommodates 412 more vehicles than the old lot it replaced bringing to total number up to 678 new parking spaces.
The structure is one segment of the project to construct the National Security Sciences Building (NSSB) that will serve as a replacement facility for the current aging administration building at Technical Area 3.
Even despite record breaking wet weather months, high winds and various roadblocks, the Project Management Division and Hensel Phelps Construction Co. transformed the corner from a badly deteriorated surface parking lot 12 months ago to a state of the art parking structure and new surface lot, according to Project Manager Keith Orr.
Through March 2005, the NNSB project has enjoyed 249,456 total hours worked without a reportable occurrence. The parking structure itself includes 67 cast-in-place concrete piers, 4,073 cubic yards of poured concrete, 443 pieces of pre-cast concrete, 1,170 tons of asphalt, and 16,133 cubic yards of dirt moved.
