May 9, 2008

Director’s Colloquium Monday

Vic Reis, former Department of Energy assistant secretary for defense programs, will discuss the future of nuclear weapons, nuclear power, and climate change during a Director’s Colloquium Monday.

Reis, now senior advisor to DOE’s Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP), is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. in the National Security Sciences Building Auditorium. His talk is titled “Nuclear Weapons, Nuclear Power and Climate Change: Options and Opportunities for the Next Administration.”

Reis will address how a small group within DOE has been analyzing issues related to domestic and international nuclear issues in order to provide the next presidential administration an objective view on how U.S. nuclear weapons, nuclear power and materials can play a pivotal role in the nation’s future with regard to national security, economic health and the environment, including climate change.

Reis will elicit comments and suggestions from attendees to help further the group’s analyses.

The talk is unclassified, but only Q-cleared employees can enter the NSSB. Reis’s talk will be broadcast on LABNET Channel 9 and also is available on desktop computers using Real Media and IPTV technology.

See the Security Smart for more information on access requirements to the NSSB Auditorium.
