Science on Wheels Programs

Galaxy to Go Kindergarten and above
LANL brings the Univers to your school! This portable, inflatable dome allows your students to explore the wonders of the night sky in a planetarium brought to you. NOTE: Special space requirements for this program: A 25-foot long by 25-foot wide by 12-foot tall room (or larger) with electrical outlets and no hanging light fixtures, air conditioners, etc. below 12 feet. The can also be no other scheduled activities in this room during the time of our presentation.

Volts & Jolts 2nd grade and up
Charge up your students with hands-on static electricity activities. Students build a static electricity generator and then use it to light up a fluorescent light. A Van de Graaff generator provides a shocking finale to this class. ZAP!

Let's Rock 3rd grade and up
Turn your students into rockhounds for a day. Students classify a variety of rock specimens using flash scopes and rock hammers. Everyone has a smashing good time with this one.

Lights, Spectra, Action! 3rd grade and up
Light . . . by far the fastest thing in the universe. Students assemble into a giant electromagnetic spectrum. Then in small groups, they break white light apart into colors, assemble colored light into white, and more.

Circuit Connection 4th grade and up
Make a connection with your class. Students assemble simple circuits with batteries, wires and light bulbs. The class ends with a bang as they construct their own fuses.

Magnetic Attractions Kindergarten through 6th grade
Attract your students attention. Through a series of hands-on activities, students learn all about magnets: attraction and repulsion, magnetic materials and magnetic fields.

Robomania Kindergarten through 6th grade
What is a robot? Students discover how robotic sensors correspond to the human body by operating a variety of educational robots. In the final activity, the students themselves become a robot!

ChemLab 4th grade and up
Mix up some fun with your students. Students are introduced to the concept of polymers with an interactive game, then they use a chemical reaction to turn white glue into a bouncy putty.

New for 2004-5: It's a Small World 4th grade and Up
Magnify your students' view of the microscopic world. Students will learn the parts of a compound microscope and the correct way to use one. We provide one microscope for two students to share and a variety of objects for them to view.
