COMPANIONS & COMPANION EXCURSIONS

at the base of the Sangre de Cristo For those of you planning to accompany REI-2005 participants to Santa Fe, we invite you to participate in several of our conference functions:
- Sunday evening reception
- Monday lunch and special lecture
- Monday evening gemology presentations
- Wednesday conference outing to Taos
- Thursday evening conference banquet
The fee for Companions for REI-2005 is $125.This fee will cover all of the events described above. You can pay this fee on-site at the conference registration on Sunday (or Monday).
We are also offering 2 companion tours for REI-2005. If you are interested in signing up for either of these tours, write to rei-2005@lanl.gov to register. You can pay for the tours at the conference, but the deadline to register for either or both of the tours is Friday, August 19, 2005.

Explore O'Keeffe country wiwth visit to Ojo Caliente Spa
As we travel north of Santa Fe, marvel at the red rock canyons that inspired Georgia O'Keeffe's world famous landscapes including a visit to one of her most favorite, secret locales: Plaza Blanca. The legendary Santuario de Chimayo, the picturesque Chama River Valley, the views of Pedernal Mountain, the village of Abiquiu and the famous ranch itself: Ghost Ranch are just a few of the breathtaking highlights on this excursion.
Following the tour, we'll visit Ojo Caliente Spa for a soak in their popular mineral baths. Bathing suit required. Entry to baths: $17. per person For those not wanting to partake of the waters, there is a nice garden area to relax.Tour Duration: 9 hours (total tour time: 6 hours / total spa time: 1 hour / prep @ spa and travel time: 1.5 hours). Departure Time: 8:30am - 5:30pm

Explore Jemez Tour
This adventure first takes us on a guided exploration of the ruins in Jemez Mountains. From there we ascend via SUV to over 9,000 feet to see the largest volcanic crater in the U.S called the Valle Caldera where elk and deer thrive. Then, travel off road through picturesque, highland forests where fantastic views of the Rio Grande River Rift abound as we descend to the valley floor.
Tour Duration: 6 hours. Departure Time: 8:30am - 2:30pm
