NATO
As a rule, travel and living expenses for the participants are covered by their home countries or home institutions.

However, some funds are available which permit the Organizing Committee to grant a living stipend to a limited number of people from NATO or Partner or Mediterranean Dialogue Countries (see Country List). The individuals to which living stipends will be granted is left to the discretion of the Organizers.

Scarcity of funds dictates that travel stipends will be granted only in very few exceptional cases. Every effort should be made by ALL participants to secure both living and travel support from their home country or home institutions.

NATO-ASI Living and Travel Stipends
A limited number of living and travel stipends will be awarded via a grant from NATO-ASI. We anticipate that we will award approximately 20 living+travel stipends to participants from NATO Partner Countries or Mediterranean Dialogue Countries (see Country List) (note that participants from Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic are also eligible for these awards). In addition, we anticipate that we will award approximately 30 partial living stipends to participants from NATO countries (see Country List). If you wish to be considered for one of these awards, please apply in writing to Kurt Sickafus at kurt@lanl.gov.

National Science Foundation Travel Awards for U.S. Participants
The National Science Foundation (NSF) will award travel stipends for up to five Course participants who: (1) are United States citizens or permanent resident aliens; and (2) either have not earned a Ph.D. degree (this is preferred) or earned a Ph.D. less than three years prior to the Course. If you wish to be nominated for an NSF travel award, please apply in writing to Kurt Sickafus at kurt@lanl.gov.

Special Funds for participants from Greece, Portugal, and Turkey
NATO provides limited additional funds to ensure the participation of some young scientists from Greece, Portugal, and Turkey, who might otherwise be prevented from attending NATO Advanced Study Institutes (ASIs) because of national financial stringency. These funds are administered on NATO’s behalf by a National Administrator from each country. This fund normally corresponds to normal or partial payment of travel expenses and is usually in the form of a return ticket provided to the participant by the relevant National Administrator. If you are a Greek, Portuguese, or Turkish national and wish to be nominated for such a travel award, please apply in writing to Kurt Sickafus at kurt@lanl.gov.

Teplov Scholarship
The Teplov Scholarship is provided by the World Federation of Scientists (WFS) and is awarded to a deserving young participant from a country of the former Soviet Union. This scholarship fully covers living and travel expenses. If you wish to be nominated for this scholarship, please apply in writing to Kurt Sickafus at kurt@lanl.gov.

Ettore Majorana Center Living Stipends
Several living stipends will be awarded to participants by the Ettore Majorana Center. We anticipate 100 participants at our Course, so we anticipate that the Center will award 10 living stipends for our Course. If you wish to be nominated for one of these awards, please apply in writing to Kurt Sickafus at kurt@lanl.gov.

Institute of Physics - Engineering Physics Group
The Institute of Physics (IOP)Engineering Physics (EP) Group will award one or more travel stipends to student members of IOP-EP. Apply for these travel stipend awards by writing directly to Dr. Alison McMillan, Chairman Engineering Physics Group, at alison.mcmillan@physics.org. The award transfer will be handled directly between the IOP and the student recipient. Recipients will be expected to write a report about the Course, which may be included as an article in the IOP-EP newsletter. Applicants must also: (1) register on-line; (2) send an abstract for poster presentation; and (3) provide a letter of recommendation from their advisor. Dr. McMillan can also provide applicants information regarding how to join IOP-EP.
