The Distinguished Performance Awards
recognize individuals and small and large teams for job performance above
and beyond what is normally expected. In 2002 this prestigious award included
seven individuals, ten small teams and seven large teams, including the
following MST employees:
Greg Kaduchak (MST-11) was awarded an Individual Distinguished Performance
Award for his innovative development of chemical and biological warfare
agent sensor technology and its timely delivery, after the 9/11 events
and in advance of the Iraq war, to end users in various US government
anti-terrorism efforts. His sensor developments include a non-invasive
chemical warfare agent detector and an acoustic concentrator that can
be used as a front end to dramatically enhance the sensitivity of existing
bio- agent detectors.
A Distinguished Performance Large Team Award went to the MST-11 Palm Power
team led by Piotr Zelenay for their outstanding accomplishment in developing
prototype Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) systems to provide 20W portable
soldier power for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA)
Palm Power Project. Members of the honored team are: Eric Brosha, John
Davey, Christian Eickes, Robert Fields, Francois Le Scornet, Dennis Lopez,
Piotr Piela, Bryan Pivovar, Geraldine Purdy, John Ramsey, John Rowley,
Mahlon Wilson, Christine Zawodzinski, Piotr Zelenay, and Yimin Zhu.
Glenn Thornton (MST-OPS) was part of the Los Alamos Mars Odyssey Team
that won a Distinguished Performance Large Team Award.
Lawrence Bronisz and Fred Mueller (both of MST-STC) were part of the Watusi
Experiment that won a Distinguished Performance Large Team Award.
