Equipment and Methods

Tri-Arc/Arc Melter

With the Tri-arc unit we are capable of Czochralski-type growth methods which are not possible with the optical floating zone units. This unit melts conductive materials with an arc temperature of up to ~3000 degrees C. The unit is used for arc melt/synthesis of feed-rod materials for the OFZ units. Crystal growth can be conducted under vacuum or inert atmosphere conditions with either a graphite or water-cooled copper hearth.
