Equipment and Methods

Cold Isostatic Press

The Single Crystal Growth Lab includes a Cold Isostatic Press which is used to press the powdered material for the feed and seed rods used for crystal growth in the Optical Floating Zone Units. The in-house CIPing capability provides versatility in feed-rod production. This aids in productivity as we don't have to rely on an outside source for the feed and seed rods. Additional rod preparation methods which are used include arc-melting and hot isostatic pressing.
