Progress

Safe, secure workplace

  • Made radical changes to ACREM management process
  • Reissued IMP 300 Integrated Work Management to align with new Conduct of Operations Manual

Exemplary information security

  • Implemented Radio Frequency ID portal pilot project to reduce cell phone security incidents
  • Established an Enterprise-wide electronic ACREM system
  • Implemented a cyber security system that reduces risk while providing exemplary service and productivity

Environmental stewards

  • Shipped 2,957 PE-Ci to WIPP to date this calendar year
  • Increased TRUPACT II shipment rate from 2 to 4 per week

Reliable nuclear deterrence

  • Delivered B61 11 first production unit 1/07
  • Fabricated and delivered first W88 WR Pit for quality acceptance

The future weapons complex

  • Held RRW-2 kick off meeting in Albuquerque
  • Applied basic X Division code team components the Roadrunner base system. Ported all key transport codes to Roadrunner base system

Anticipate threats with science and technology

  • Launched Cibola Flight Experiment (CFE) satellite
  • Developed new multi-million dollar programs in unconventional fuels development (e.g., oil shale and tar sands) with industrial partners

National security science lab

  • Developed Open MPI power the SNL Thunderbird platform to #6 on the top 500 Supercomputer list
  • Implemented Los Alamos XCPU project and demonstrated cross-platform shared library setup from Opteron to Cell which will be needed for the Roadrunner hybrid architecture
  • Doubled process yield for a specific Pu machining process

Responsive infrastructure

  • Completed clean outs in TA 48, 46, 59 and 51
  • Disposed over 240 m3 of uncontrolled mixed low level waste

Drive superior performance

  • Kicked off Performance Improvement process for FY08-FY12 with Deputy Director
  • Populated with over 1000 metrics the LANL Dashboard (using benchmarked commercial software) and used the Dashboard as a performance risk management tool at Director's Portfolio Reviews
  • Trained 177 Yellow Belts, 189 Champions, and over 1200 managers and staff on Lean Six Sigma

Business excellence

  • Reducted 20% in cycle time in $5M to $10M procurements, 178 days
  • Rolled out e-Auction program with 5 e-Auctions to date and an average of 17% savings per event

Effective communication

  • Co-developed with IST, CIO (IW), and IRM new daily electronic employee publication that will save money and increase effectiveness
  • Supported Tribal Education Initiatives: Conducted Summer Science Program at Valle Caldera for 176 students from 4 Accord Pueblos (numerous other accomplishments)

Successful workforce

  • Briefed managers on new benchmarked compensation and job classification system and provided additional information on policy principles and end state of R&D TSM structure design
  • Completed Performance Based Leadership (PBL) program with Director and 16 senior executives
