![]() Finishing in the Future“Finishing in the Future” is a meeting dedicated to bringing together experts in the field of genomic finishing - including representatives from the industries that serve this specialized scientific community. The meeting focuses on laboratory methods and computational tools used to help sequence, assemble, and finish genomes, including new sequencing technologies, which promise high-throughput results by sequencing more base-pairs per run at longer read-lengths. In the past, companies have presented different techniques they have developed to achieve maximum balance for researchers. To this end, the 2007 meeting included an open and candid panel discussion with the audience about how finishing could be made faster and cheaper and a more accessible tool for enhancing research. Due to the nature of the expanding field of metagenomics, the Finishing in the Future 2008 will include an entire day devoted to this research area.
