New Mexico Electric Car Challenge: November 22
The New Mexico Electric Car Challenge (formerly the New Mexico Hydrogen Fuels Challenge) allows students in grades 6 through 8 to develop enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects at a crucial stage in their development. Building a battery-powered car requires skills in both science and math. 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Highland High School, 4700 Coal Ave. SE, Albuquerque. The press conference for the STEM Education in New Mexico proclamation will take place at 10:00 a.m. as part of the electric car challenge. Register for the 2015 New Mexico Regional Science Bowls: Now
The 2015 New Mexico Regional Science Bowls will bring together high-school and middle-school teams from across New Mexico. The high-schools teams compete on February 7, 2015, and the middle-school teams on February 28—both in Albuquerque. Launched in 1991, the National Science Bowl is a highly competitive science education and academic event in which student teams compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. Each team is composed of four students, one alternate student and a coach. Regional science bowl championship teams receive an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the national event. High-school coaches can register their teams on the National Science Bowl’s High School Regionals site. Middle-school coaches should consult the Middle School Regionals page.
Register for the 2015 MidSchoolMath National Conference: Now
Participants of the 2015 MidSchoolMath National Conference, which will take place on February 27 and February 28, 2015, at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, will have the opportunity to connect with fellow teachers and administrators from around the country and learn about innovative lessons crafted to inspire science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Dan Meyer, an acclaimed TED Talk speaker and former high-school math teacher now studying education at Stanford University, will deliver the keynote presentation and lead special sessions and an optional pre-conference workshop on February 26.
