Lab Subcontractor Consortium provides grants

Eight Northern New Mexico non-profits to benefit

LANS, LANL support Major Subcontractors Consortium

Eight Northern New Mexico not-for-profit organizations recently received grants ranging from $5,000 to $12,500 from the LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium.

The grants were awarded to regional not-for-profit organizations supporting industry cluster development in the seven-county region around the Laboratory and the eight northern Pueblos.

Recipients and grant amounts:

  • Española Fiber Arts Center, $12,500
  • Taos Entrepreneurial Network, $5,000
  • MIX Santa Fe, $10,000
  • WESST, $10,000
  • Los Alamos Institutes, $12,500
  • Santa Fe Farmers Market Institute, $12,500
  • Mora County Entrepreneurial Network, $12,500
  • Accion, $5,000.

In total, $80,000 in grants were awarded with $51,000 of that amount supplied by Los Alamos National Security, LLC.

"The Laboratory; Los Alamos National Security, LLC; and our major subcontractors are working together on collaborative economic development investments," said Kurt Steinhaus, LANL's Community Programs Office director. "These grants are an important part of diversifying our economy and continuing business growth in Northern New Mexico."

Liddie Martinez of SOC Los Alamos, the Laboratory's protective force subcontractor, is chairperson of the grant review committee.

Lab director meets with Major Subcontractors Consortium

Recently, Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan took time to speak with members of the LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium. McMillan has pledged to meet regularly to update consortium members about the status of Laboratory operations and to thank them for supporting the Lab. The LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium is a group of businesses who support Northern New Mexico through their regional community development plans.

The new rocket fuel and motor design adds a higher degree of safety by separating the fuel from the oxidizer, both novel formulations that are, by themselves, not able to detonate.
