Four seasons of giving
We value a culture of giving and appreciate our employees’ on-going volunteerism throughout Northern New Mexico and even nationwide. So, as the Lab, its employees, and retirees wrap up this year’s season, I’m happy to say this is not our only time of giving. Programs such as our Science Education Community Service Time efforts mean that whenever school is in session, Lab employees are there supplying their expertise. Then there are the Lab employees and retirees who volunteer year round, helping hundreds of local nonprofit organizations. The tens of thousands of hours they’ve logged in VolunteerMatch so far this year is just the tip of the iceberg.
Come spring, it will be time to ramp up for the flurry of science fairs that usually take place where our staff will serve as judges (and in other capacities) as they hope to instill an interest in science that will hopefully last a lifetime.
Then, before summer is over, we have to be ready for our annual back-to-school supply drive and the annual Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund. The latter activity helps to help ensure qualifying high-school graduates have an opportunity to obtained the advanced-degrees that are becoming so important in today's economy.
So we really do have four seasons of giving at LANL. I’m also pround to report that as we conclude our employee giving campaign this season, we’ve reached a new milestone of more than $2 million in employee contributions. With the LANS match, that makes more than $3 million that can go out and do good in the world.
Before signing off, please allow me to take this opportunity to wish you, your family, and friends a wonderful holiday and an even better New Year.
