In September, the New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) program announced its leveraged project assistance plans for 2013. Leveraged projects are those in which several businesses work together to solve joint problems by applying for assistance from LANL or Sandia National Laboratories researchers. The proposals are evaluated for their potential to help the businesses grow, to positively impact the local economy, and their alignment with available laboratory expertise.

During the coming year, eight of the proposals will be implemented, which will assist 35 different companies for needs ranging from assistance in characterizing rare earth element deposits and identifying low-impact separation methodology to evaluating the technical feasibility and economic value of a concentrated solar plant.

NMSBA is a joint program of Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories, in partnership with the State of New Mexico.
