Student Opportunities

The Los Alamos National Laboratory offers a wide range of Student Internships for students that are interested in various technical and administrative career fields.

High School and PreCollege - The High School Cooperative (HS Co-op) Program provides qualified high school seniors the oppurtunity to develop skills and gain work experience, while receiving exposure to a variety of technical and administrative career fields.

Undergraduates - The Undergraduate Student (UGS) Program offers summer, part-time, and full-time appointments for undergraduae students. The program is a year-round educational program which provides students with relevant research experience while they are pursuing and undergraduate degree.

Graduates -The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) Program is a year-round educational program which provides students with relevant research experience why they are pursuing a graduate degree. In some cases, students can arrange to conduct master's or doctoral thesis research at the laboratory. The majority of the appointments are in the technical and scientific disciplines.

Postdocs -The Postdoctoral Program provides a means of advancing knowledge in the areas of basic and applied research and strengthening our national scientific and technical capabilites. Appointees provide valuable stimulus to the research efforts of the Laboratory staff and make available the most recent developments of univesity science and engineering departments as well as forming communcation links between the Laboratory, industry, and universites. The Laboratory experience presents appointees the opportunity to derive significant professional accomplishment and advancement of their career goals by publishing the results of their work, participating in scientific and technical conferences and presenting seminars. Candidates are nominted and sponsored by a member of the Laboratory's technical staff. Selection is based on Laboratory wide competition and is determined by the candidate's academic qualificationsand research excellence.

NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program (NASA-USRP) - NASA is seeking undergraduate students from diverse communites who are interested in a challenging research experience at a NASA center. 10-week Summer sessions and 15-week Fall sessions will be available. Aligned with NASA's research and development mission, the USRP program provides students with a technical mentor and excellent hands-on experience.
