For more information on the contour method, email Mike Prime. I'm glad to try to answer questions on implementing the method, licensing the method, or having measurements performed.

Where to start if you want to learn the contour method? The dissertation from Johnson gives a good introduction and and good collection of details on data processing in Chapters 3&4.

Other contour method practitioners and information:

• Hill Engineering is now licensed to perform contour method measurements.
• The Material Performance Lab at U. C. Davis has done some really nice, to be published, measurements using the contour method. See this site's publications page for a report of theirs you can download.
• The Structural Integrity Research Group at the Open University has done some good contour measurements. See this site's publications page.
• The Stress and Damage Characterization Group at Manchester has done lots of work on contour.
