Directions to HAZMAT Challenge

LANL's HAZMAT Reesponse Ready Room and Training Facility are ready to welcome this year's Challengers!

Technical Area 64 - HAZMAT Response Ready Room (64-39-102)

From townsite

  1. South on Diamond Drive, across Omega Bridge, continue to Pajarito Road
  2. Left (east) on Pajarito Road for 1/2 mile
  3. Turn right at low wooden sign that says, "ESH-10 Hazardous Materials Response Group TA-64-39, 43, 45"
  4. Parking is on south side, behind building
  5. Enter Building 39 from south side, in center of building
  6. Room 102 is the Ready Room

From White Rock

  1. Enter Laboratory via Pajarito Road
  2. Pass TA-55 on right
  3. Pass the signal for TA-64 (left) and TA-48 (right)
  4. Turn left into the next driveway (marked with a low wooden sign that says, "ESH-10 Hazardous Materials Response Group TA-64-39, 43, 45")
  5. Parking is on south side, behind building
  6. Enter Building 39 from south side, in center of building
  7. Room 102 is the Ready Room

Technical Area 49 - HAZMAT Training Facility (49-113)

LANL's Technical Area 49 (TA-49) is located on the southern boundary of the Laboratory.

  • The entrance to TA-49 is located on the north side of State Route 4.
  • Approaching from the west, it is 2.6 miles east of the intersection between State Route 4 and State Route 501.
  • Approaching from the east, it is 3.3 miles west of the entrance to Bandelier National Monument.

TA-49 is located in a "controlled area" of the Laboratory. A telephone pedestal (665-9989), to request assistance, is located outside the access gate. 

  • Once inside the gate, proceed on the paved road until it ends at a 4-way intersection.
  • Turn right on the dirt/gravel road (at the sign for the Hazardous Materials Training Facility).
  • Parking is available in the paved area in front of Building 113. For larger events, specific parking areas will be designated and posted.

The HAZMAT Training Facility consists of the classroom, kitchenette, lavatory, and offices, as well as the outdoor performance-based training area and props/stations located to the east and south of the building.
