Title: The growth of black hole remnants of primordial stars

Author(s): Marcelo Alvarez

Abstract: The first stars to form in the universe, forming at redshift z>15 in minihalos with masses of order 10^5-6 M_sun, may leave behind black holes as their remnants. The question of how quickly these black holes can grow through accretion, and what their radiative feedback effects are on the surrounding medium, must be addressed before a full understanding of subsequent star formation can be reached. In addition, these black holes may serve as the \"seeds\" for the much larger black holes observed at redshifts z<7. We present some preliminary modeling of their growth and feedback effects using the adaptive mesh refinement code enzo, and compare to analytical expectations.
