Title: 3D Simulations of Primordial Star Formation With HD Chemistry

Author(s): Ian McGreer

Abstract: We have incorporated deuterium chemistry and HD cooling into the 3D AMR code Enzo and performed cosmological simulations of primordial star formation. We follow the evolution of three halos within a (0.7Mpc)^3 volume with and without HD cooling. We find that while HD cooling can be effective in low mass halos, the physics of collapse is dominated by H2, so that HD is expected to have little effect on the final stellar mass. We also examined the effects of HD cooling on primordial star formation in ionized regions. In ionized regions, HD cooling can dominate H2 cooling, lowering the gas temperature to the CMB floor and further reducing the fragment mass.
