Title: Reionization Signatures of First Stars

Presenter: Andrea Ferrara

Abstract: What do we know about the epoch when the first stars and galaxies formed ? Were these objects similar to those that we routinely monitor in the local universe ? How can we get information on their properties, and in general, on the prevailing conditions during the first cosmic billion year ? The answers to these questions can be found by suitably combining theory (i.e. numerical simulations + semi-analytical models) and observations. By now, the common wisdom claims that the first, metal-free stars were born inside low-mass (M < 10^8 Msun) galaxies and were 100 time more massive than the Sun. The UV light and metal enrichment associated with these sources, along with their mechanical energy deposition, are now thought to have deeply influenced and shaped the subsequent cosmic structure formation history. New windows on these remote (z>5) epochs are now opening thanks to high redshift observations of HI 21cm radiation, IR deep surveys and background, sub-mm emission from molecules and dust, small scale explorations of the CMB spectra. I will discuss the interpretation of the available data and predictions for future experiments.
