Siltem Presentation
by Julien Bergoz*
"Siltem is a product and trade-name of GE Plastics.
GE Plastics makes no claim to radiation resistance of Siltem-STM1500.
"Marc Tavlet at CERN/TIS conducted tests on Siltem-STM1500 before changing position.
His test results never got published, but he gave me a copy in 2004, attached to this mail.
In a private conversation Marc Tavlet told me Siltem STM1500 is probably superior to PEEK in radiation tolerance.
"Siltem can be extruded for wire/cable insulation.
Cost per km is comparable to PEEK's.
Siltem is much more flexible than PEEK and far more agreeable to work with.
We had cables made out of Siltem and installed them in the most severe radiation environments since 2006.
So far we have no user's report of Siltem cable radiation damage."
