Event Description

Café Scientifique New Mexico is partnering with the Lab to host three special events for high school students in northern New Mexico to go behind the scenes and learn about the latest technology in emergency management careers.

This program is open to high school students in Los Alamos, Española, Pojoaque and Taos.

The Los Alamos event is March 13, the is Española-Pojoaque event is March 21 and the Taos event is March 27.

Emergency response to major disasters requires the most advanced technology to protect the responders, the public and the environment. Emergency response careers can take people anywhere in the world to apply their technical skills; one of the foremost leaders in this field is the Laboratory.

Café Scientifique New Mexico is using Eventbrite for program registration, which includes a free bus ticket. Each event can accommodate up to 50 people. They can sign up for their community event so that busses are filled in each town. Bus transportation from each community to the Laboratory will be provided, as will a meal before the event.

Participants will not be allowed to drive to the Laboratory; they must be on a sanctioned bus. Permission slips are required and are linked on the Eventbrite registration forms. These events are restricted to teenagers age 13 or older, with U.S. citizenship. Educators who would like to attend and chaperone should send an email to info@scieds.com.

Students can register by visiting the Café Scientifique Facebook page.

Café Scientifique New Mexico is the founding member of the Teen Science Café Network, which now includes over 110 teen science cafés across the U.S. The National Science Foundation funds the Teen Science Café Network. Science Education Solutions in Los Alamos coordinates the national network.
