Matt began work at Hanford with General Electric Company in 1962 after having taught in senior high school for five years. He joined United States Testing Company in 1965, at the time of the Hanford diversification effort, performing Bioassay and Radiochemical Environmental Analyses. His last position with United States Testing Company was as Director of the Radiochemical Analysis Laboratory Operations. Subsequently he joined International Technology as Technical Director and is now working for Quanterra Environmental Services in the same position at the Richland Laboratory facility. He has been involved in Environmental and Bioassay Radiochemical Services for nearly 35 years.

Matt received a Master's Degree in General Science from Oregon State University and a Master's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Montana. He is Chair of the HPS Standard N13.30, Working Group 2.5, which was published this year as an approved ANSI-HPS Standard and is a member of the Writing Group preparing ANSI N42.23, Measurement and Associated Instrumentation Quality Assurance for Radioassay Laboratories.
