Practical Aspects of Environmental
LSC
This workshop
focuses on the practical aspects of sample preparation and the proper use of
liquid scintillation for low level counting.
Proper Sample preparation and
and instrument optimization will be the the focus of the workshop.
Two Speakers:

Passo, Jr, Senior Product Manager, Packard Instrument Company will
discuss the Practical Use of
Tri-Carb® LSCs for Low Level Counting. The practical aspects of using TR-LSC™,
Time Resolved Liquid Scintillation, electronic background reduction are
discussed for both the instrument and the sample preparation point of view.
Mr. James Thomson, Product
Manager, Packard BioScience BV. will deliver a special presentation entitled Sample
Preparation & Cocktail Selection. Mr. Thomson has had many years of
bench experience in the formulation of several commercially available
cocktails. He will discuss sample chemistry, sample handling and make

In the past, a limited number of inter-laboratory measurement comparisons on nuclear waste drums have been performed. The conclusions of these studies indicated that more work was needed. The manufacturing of reference drums need to be improved and the NDA methods need to be standardized. In addition, there is currently no routine program for an intercomparison program for drum counting facilities. The aim of this workshop is to survey the community for interest in a drum PE program, identify the stakeholders and funding mechanisms, and lay the foundation for a routine intercomparison program for drum assays.
