The 42nd Annual Conference on Bioassay,

Analytical

and

Environmental Radiochemistry

Fourth Announcement

September 20, 1996

Preparations for the 42nd Annual Conference on Bioassay, Analytical and Environmental Radiochemistry are being finalized. The conference has drawn many excellent technical abstracts from nationally and internationally renowned researchers and scientists.

Registration will begin on Sunday morning at approximately 8:00 AM and will be accompanied by Vendor Workshops during the day. There shall be sufficient time for those attending the Vendor Workshops to register and meet with colleagues on Sunday. Registration will continue all day Monday (7:45 AM to 5:15 PM) coinciding with the Technical Workshops. There are eight sequentially scheduled Technical Workshops on Monday separated into two-hour sessions. There are two rooms available for these workshops set in a classroom style seating. Coffee and Danish will be available prior to the workshops (7:30 AM) on the mezzanine near the registration table.

Vendor displays will be set up for viewing throughout the Conference starting on Monday at 8:00 AM.

There will be a social hour on Monday evening at 6:30 PM with a "No Host" bar sponsored by Thermo NUTech Corporation. This will provide Conference participants and guests with an opportunity to get acquainted in a casual setting.

A luncheon, sponsored principally by vendors, will be held on Thursday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday nights are open nights for the Conference. It is suggested that this time be set aside to enjoy a night out in San Francisco. San Francisco, is one of the premier gateways of the world and sightseeing and entertainment options are within short walking distance of the Cathedral Hill Hotel. Glorious views, cable cars climb and descend great hills, charming neighbor-hoods, including, Chinatown, reveal the City's myriad of cultural treasures; more than 3,200 restaurants offer succulent cuisine from around the world; shopping options are vast and varied; Pier 39 boasts over 100 specialty shops, 10 fabulous restaurants, and unparalleled bay views. Visit the San Franciso World Wide Web Home Page that is linked to the Bioassay Web page for more information about this wonderful city.

Hotel:

The Cathedral Hill Hotel is known as San Francisco's greatest hotel value, because of their unique facilities, excellent service and convenient location. The large selection of guest rooms have a panoramic view of San Francisco. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool surrounded by a Garden Courtyard, a beautiful, quiet setting. The hotel has filled up (especially the conference rate rooms), but there are alternative hotels in the area that the hotel staff can help you with. If you call the Cathedral Hill Hotel and put your name on a list they will get back to you with the best reservation for your stay. Please identify your affiliation with the 42nd Bioassay Conference when reservations are being made.

Registration:

We will continue accepting registration by mail or onsite registration on the day of the Conference. The registration fee is $140. Conference spouse/child registration for entertainment only is $70. These registration fees are necessary to cover the costs of the hotel, receptions, coffee breaks, audio visual equipment. It should be remembered that the Bioassay Conference is not associated with any professional society and the sponsoring organization in no way assumes any financial responsibility for the Conference. Therefore, we can not sustain any financial loss since we have no underwriter for the Conference. Any funds remaining after all the bills have been paid will be forwarded to next year's Conference.

Technical & Professional Committee Meetings:

A limited number of breakout rooms have been set aside for professional committee meetings in the evenings. In order to be included in the official program booklet, any person wishing to reserve a breakout room in the evening Monday - Wednesday should get in touch with Paula Foerschler (510-423-1714) or Anita DeSilva (415-776-8200) as soon as possible.

Abstracts:

Final abstracts, in camera ready form, were due September 1st. At the time of this mailing, we have received 14 final abstracts compared to the 50 preliminary abstracts submitted. The final program is being assembled now, so for those remaining authors, please send in your final abstract as soon as possible so that it may be included in the Conference proceedings. Any further delay will risk your abstract not being included in the final printed booklet. Mail or express deliver your final abstract to 42nd Bioassay Conference, c/o Paula Foerschler, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Mail Stop L-379, Livermore, CA 94550.

Presentations:

Developing the technical program for the 3 day Conference was a challenge because of the extensive technical program and evening social activities. In order to adhere to the Conference schedule, we are requesting that each presentation be held to 20 minutes (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A). If you need more time for your presentation, please contact us immediately so we can try to rearrange the schedule to accommodate your needs. Special requests relative to presentations should be directed to Paula Foerschler at 510-423-1714.
